www.paddypowerpoker.com – Favourite Hands

www.paddypowerpoker.com – As players, it is often the case that we find a certain hand which has been lucky for us, or has had some sort of significance to us in the past. Playing this hand every time you are dealt it simply for that reason, isn’t wise, but seeing a flop with it once in a while is reasonable, although it does depend on the strength of your favoured hand.

My personal favourite hand, which has history for me, is (A,5) of hearts. The reason being that this was the final hand which won me my first ever live tournament. Against (K,7) I flopped a 5, and made a set when another 5 fell on the turn, and since then of course, this hand has always evoked memories of that win. Despite this hand not being overly strong, I do like to take a cheap flop with it if at all possible, and many players do the same with their favoured hands.

Recently, I was paying poker against someone who called my all in raise for a fairly nice stack of chips, only to turn over (8,9) suited against my (A,Q) suited. After they had promptly made a straight on the turn to damage my stack considerably, it became apparent that this player favoured suited connectors of this type and had called purely for that reason.

Caling when you know you are behind preflop is not profitable in the long run, even if you are holding a hand which is usually kind to you. So remember not to get too involved with a favoured hand if you know it is behind. It might work once or twice, but over the long haul you will cost yourself chips.
