Coralpoker.co.uk – Case Study 3
www.coralpoker.co.uk – In an Omaha tournament, you find yourself dealt the following hand (2d,3d,5s,6s). Four players see the flop of (4c,7c,8h). many players would see this as a perfect flop, but immediately you should be looking for the potential pitfalls involved. You should be concerned about the fact that you are involved in a multiway pot but you are almost certainly in front at this point.
If the first player to act raises, and the other two call, I would feel that calling is the right choice. the reason being that one or more players are probably on a club draw and it would be very difficult to force them out on the flop. If the turn is not a club (which is likely) you can force the club draws out then, because four players calling the bet made on the flop puts enough money in the pot for a substantial bet to be made if you are playing Pot limit. If a club does fall on the turn and someone makes a Flush, they would probably have called a reraise on the flop anyway, and so you have cost yourself less when you fold to a club on the turn. There are other danger cards too of course, with the board pairing being a key one. In this situation I would fold to a strong raise also.
the key point in my opinion, is that if playes have some part of the flop but also have a big draw, they will call raises on the flop, but if they are drawing to a hand with only one card to come, they will always be more inclined to fold to a big raise or reraise coralpoker.co.uk
